In New York, when large objects or materials have outlived their purpose, it is customary to cut them into smaller pieces, bundle them, and place them on the curb for collection. These overlooked remnants become part of the city’s quiet, cyclical life.
Made out of New York is a series of one-off furniture pieces that draws directly from this abundant, often unnoticed resource. Using simple tools and minimal techniques, each piece is given a new identity while retaining the stories of its parts. The table is composed of 60% Crown Heights and 40% Williamsburg wood; the chair blends 60% SoHo and 40% Prospect Heights; the shelves are made of 80% Prospect Heights and 20% Chelsea.
Reclaimed wood, wood by-products, and glass come together to form objects that are both functional and narrative—a reflection of the city itself.
